Things to do

Puerto’s days sort themselves into a few great shapes. Pick by the day you want, not by a checklist — everything below is within thirty minutes of town.

Ocean mornings

The 7am panga out of Puerto Angelito for whales and dolphins (December–March) or marine life year-round; sport fishing for sailfish and mahi with the town’s serious captains; or a surf lesson on Carrizalillo’s learner waves.

Beach days, honestly sorted

Swimming: Carrizalillo or Angelito. Spectacle: Zicatela when swell runs. Solitude: Palmarito, ideally from a horse at sunset. Sunset-with-services: Bacocho’s beach clubs, capped by the nightly turtle release. The full map: all nine, flagged.

Nights that aren’t bars

The bioluminescent lagoon on a new-moon night is the single most-recommended experience on this coast — time the moon, not the price. The turtle release at dusk is the family-night classic. For the other kind of night, the weekly circuit has you covered.

Taste of Oaxaca

The coast does Oaxaca’s food culture its own way: an ancestral mezcal distillery visit, market food tours, and hands-on cooking classes fill the low-sun hours — and our eating guide handles every meal in between.

The wellness current

Puerto’s quieter economy: yoga, breathwork, retreats, and water-based bodywork, strongest in La Punta and on the town’s edges. Two of the coast’s best-reviewed offerings:
