Flights to Puerto Escondido
Puerto Escondido’s little airport grew up: PXM now lands direct flights from two countries, and the days when getting here meant a Mexico City connection plus a mountain road are over for most travelers. The airport sits absurdly close to town — you can be checked in at a Rinconada hotel twenty minutes after the seatbelt sign goes off.

At the airport
On arrival: the official ticket-taxi counter charges per person into town; groups do as well hiring a regular cab curbside at the flat rate. Rinconada and Bacocho are ~10 minutes, Zicatela ~15, La Punta ~20. Car-rental desks operate at the airport, but read our getting-around advice before committing — most visitors do the whole trip on taxis, colectivos, and a rented scooter for less than the insurance alone.
Booking strategy
Fare pattern worth knowing: CDMX–PXM is a competitive shuttle (three airlines) and prices stay sane if you book even a couple of weeks out — except Christmas–New Year and Semana Santa, when everything to this coast sells out weeks ahead. The US nonstops (Houston, Dallas) are small regional jets with small inventories: book those early always. From Oaxaca City, weigh the Aerotucán hop against the van — the flight wins on time, the van wins on price and luggage. Book the hop through the airline’s official site, office phone, or in person only: travelers have reported lookalike checkout flows and unofficial WhatsApp follow-ups around this route (details in the community note below).
