Punta Colorada
East past Zicatela’s far end, Punta Colorada is where Puerto’s wave culture goes local: a wedging shore-break that has made this the town’s bodyboarding home, with a tight community, occasional contests, and none of the strip’s polish. For visitors it is a look at surf-town Puerto before the boom — and a beach to watch from the sand rather than enter casually.
The wave and who it’s for
The bank throws a fast, hollow wedge close to shore — a bodyboarder’s wave more than a surfer’s, and an expert’s either way. It breaks in shallow water with real downward force; this is not a graduate-from-La-Punta step, it is a different discipline. If you ride prone and travel with your board, the locals’ sessions here are the draw. Everyone else: bring a chair.
Practicalities
Expect a local beach, not a tourist one: limited shade, a comedor or two on good days, no lifeguard tower you can count on. Mornings offshore, afternoons windier — standard coast rhythm. Combine it with the Zicatela south end for a low-key afternoon away from the crowds.
